*All work will be graded on a 50/50 grading percentage.

Minor grades will be worth 50% of the grade and major grades will be worth 50% of the grade.

Most of the work should be completed during class time but may be taken home and completed there if it is not completed in class.

If taken home, it is due at the beginning of the next class period.

*Late work will be accepted one day late only. It will receive a maximum grade of 70 if it is late. If it is more than one day late it will not be accepted.

If a student is absent he/she will receive extra time to get the work done.

*All work must be completed in pencil or blue or black ink. If it is turned in using another color, it will be returned to the student to do again. If the student’s handwriting is not legible, it will be returned to the student to do again.

Students should not write on the back of any sheet of paper to be turned in. Only work written on the front side of a sheet of paper will be graded. (This does not apply to 2-sided worksheets. Both sides of worksheets must always be completed.)

Work torn out of a spiral notebook will be returned to the student to do again.  Please do all work on loose leaf paper.

*Class expectations: No food or drink allowed in the classroom with the exceptions of water in a clear/transparent water bottle with a lid/cap.

Use the restroom before you come to class.

Bring your Chromebook and class supplies to class every day.

Cell phones must be turned in to the teacher at the beginning of class.

Headphones or earbuds are only allowed to be used with Chromebooks when the Chromebooks are being used for class purposes.

Backpacks go against the wall.

Supplies

  • Earbuds for Chromebooks (absolutely necessary for a class full of Chromebooks!)
  • Pen (black or blue only) OR pencil w/ eraser and portable pencil sharpener with reservoir for shavings
  • One box of colored map pencils (Put your name on the box with a sharpie.)
  • One composition book (7.5" by 9.75")
  • One 1” three-hole rigid/hard binder

Chromebook Policy

  • Students are to bring their Chromebooks and chargers to class every day.
  • We will be using Chromebooks to complete work in class every day for a grade.
  • Students need to fully charge their Chromebooks every night at home because access in the classroom to wall outlets for charging is extremely limited.

Food and Drink Policy

  • No food or drinks is allowed inside the classroom.
  • Water is allowed in a capped, transparent bottle.

Cell Phones and Personal Electronics Policy

  • Cell phones and all personal electronics are absolutely prohibited in the classroom.
  • Cell phones must be turned off at the beginning of class & given to the teacher to store until class ends.
  • Any student found to have violated this rule may have their cell phone or other personal electronic device taken up by the teacher. The cell phone or electronic device will be taken to the office. School policy will take effect.

General Guidelines

  • Students are not to interfere with the education of other students. Behaviors that can interfere with the education of other students, and thus are prohibited include:
    • Talking without the teacher’s permission
    • Walking around the room
  • Students should focus on doing their best in class to learn, and to never hurt the learning of classmates.

Medina ISD Student Code of Conduct

  • In the General Conduct Violations section, under the heading Disregard for Authority, it says …

“Students shall not: Fail to comply with directives given by school personnel (insubordination).”

This means that all reasonable directives given by the teacher, the substitute teacher, and any other school personnel must be complied with by all students. Failure to do so will result in discipline and consequences.

In other words, not every rule, procedure, or policy is mentioned in this particular document. It is simply the responsibility of all students to comply with any reasonable directives of the teacher and other school personnel.

Mr. Bower believes that four simple words are an excellent guide to school (and life): “Do the right thing.”
